What is CINS?

With the growth of our fleet of Sentinel IPS units, we have come to appreciate the significant insights gained from the attack data we gather, which serves not just our clients but also the entire community at large. To make the most of this valuable information, we have introduced the Collective Intelligence Network Security (CINS, amusingly pronounced "sins") initiative, which is designed to substantially improve the security of our customers' networks. Additionally, we take pride in sharing this vital information freely with the InfoSec community. Our CINS framework continuously compiles attack data from all deployed Sentinel units, allowing us to calculate a CINS Score for each flagged IP address. This score functions much like a FICO score that assesses creditworthiness; in this case, it gauges the trustworthiness and security of an IP address. In tandem with the CINS Score, we provide relevant details such as the IP address's whois information, its geographical origin, and an in-depth examination of its attack patterns—covering aspects like type, frequency, and impact across the Sentinel network. This initiative plays a crucial role not only in fortifying individual network defenses but also in enhancing the collective strength of the cybersecurity ecosystem, paving the way for a safer digital environment. By sharing insights derived from extensive data analysis, we foster collaboration and innovation within the security community.

What is AT&T Alien Labs Open Threat Exchange?

The world's largest open threat intelligence community supports collaborative defense efforts by delivering actionable insights derived from community contributions. In the security sector, the exchange of threat information often occurs in an unstructured and informal way, leading to various blind spots, frustration, and increased risks. Our mission is to empower organizations and government entities to quickly gather and share relevant, timely, and accurate data on emerging or ongoing cyber threats, thereby reducing the likelihood of severe breaches and mitigating the effects of attacks. The Alien Labs Open Threat Exchange (OTX™) actualizes this objective by establishing the first truly open threat intelligence community. OTX provides unrestricted access to a global network of threat researchers and cybersecurity professionals, which includes over 100,000 members from 140 countries who collectively contribute more than 19 million threat indicators daily. This initiative not only delivers community-generated data but also encourages collaborative research and simplifies the process of updating security measures. Ultimately, OTX is reshaping the threat intelligence sharing arena, fostering a more robust and informed security landscape for all involved. Through this transformative platform, participants can enhance their preparedness and response strategies against evolving cyber threats.
