What is openDCIM?

openDCIM is a complimentary, web-based solution designed to optimize Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM), thereby improving the overall efficiency of data center functions. Licensed under GPL v3, it allows users to modify and distribute the software as long as proper credits are given. The primary goal of openDCIM is to diminish reliance on spreadsheets or word processors for managing data center inventories. Key features include comprehensive physical inventory management, support for multiple rooms, and capacity management focused on space, power, and cooling needs. Furthermore, it offers basic contact management through integration with existing business directories via UserID, monitors fault tolerance to simulate power interruptions, and determines the center of gravity for each cabinet. Additional functionalities encompass management templates for devices, optional tracking of cable connections within cabinets and per switch device, as well as archival functions for equipment disposal, ensuring a thorough approach to data center oversight. This versatile tool is dedicated to modernizing and streamlining the intricate processes linked to data center management while also promoting collaborative enhancements from its user community.

What is Intel Server Management?

Efficiently manage and control your servers with a variety of Intel® server management tools and firmware, designed to alert users to potential problems, ensure firmware is current, and monitor power and thermal conditions in the data center. By utilizing a virtual keyboard, video, mouse (KVM), and virtual media redirection, you can achieve comprehensive server management capabilities. Central to this system is a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC), a specialized microcontroller situated on the server's motherboard, which includes features and northbound interfaces that allow users to oversee and control their servers via custom management software, established solutions like Intel® Data Center Manager, Intel® Server Utilities, or third-party applications. The platform also provides extensive Redfish schemas for firmware management and updates while maintaining an organized asset inventory. In addition, it fully supports legacy protocols such as IPMI, SNMP, and SMTP, with IPMI ensuring compliance with version 2.0 and integrating several additional OEM commands for improved functionality. This robust framework guarantees users a dependable and detailed approach to sustaining optimal server performance, thereby enhancing operational efficiency in data center management. By leveraging these advanced tools, businesses can minimize downtime and ensure a more resilient IT infrastructure.
