What is IrfanView?

IrfanView is a fast, lightweight, and innovative FREEWARE image viewer designed for Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10, specifically for non-commercial use. This software effectively balances ease of use for beginners with advanced capabilities tailored for seasoned users. In contrast to many graphic viewers that tend to mirror features and designs from well-known programs like ACDSee and even IrfanView itself, this viewer focuses on the creation of unique and captivating functionalities. It made history as the first Windows graphic viewer to support Multiple (animated) GIFs, and it was one of the earliest to include Multipage TIF and Multiple ICO compatibility. The application boasts features such as lossless JPEG rotation, cropping, and EXIF date modifications, even during batch processing tasks. Users have the option to create slideshows that can be saved as EXE/SCR files or written onto CDs, alongside the capability for batch conversion coupled with advanced image processing for all types of files. Furthermore, IrfanView supports embedded color profiles in both JPG and TIF formats, while ensuring that no registry modifications are made without the user's explicit approval. This dedication to distinctive features and empowering the user experience truly distinguishes IrfanView in the competitive landscape of graphic viewers, making it a preferred choice for many.

Best Windows graphics viewer and converter

    Date: Feb 25 2023
    Summary

Best graphics viewer and format converter, for a lot less than a lot of competing commercial products.

    Positive

Using this software pretty much since the first released version, smaller and yet faster than anything else on Windows, can read with a couple of exceptions all graphics formats I have so far thrown at it (no WPG support and DWG files are not shown as proper vector graphics when zooming due to the DLL used).

    Negative

Not much really, it just worked for all my use cases.

Much Better than Windows Image Viewer

    Date: Apr 07 2022
    Summary

I have been using IrfanView for almost a decade now and it just works great. It is much better than the default windows image viewer, even if you just use it as an image viewer.

    Positive

Easy to use - Intuitive Interface.
Fast and lightweight (5 Mb application size).
    Image viewer - Slideshow.
Basic editing options - photo effects, cropping, text overlay.
Plugins / Extensions for advanced features.
    Free for personal use.

    Negative

The only nitpick would be the dated User Interface.
