What is K-9 Mail?

K-9 Mail is designed to meet the needs of both novice and seasoned users, offering an extensive range of features that appeal to all. Among its offerings is a customizable debug logging option, which can be activated by users to help diagnose problems and errors effectively. As an open-source initiative that prioritizes user privacy, we consciously refrain from implementing a continuous logging mechanism that would transmit all device activity to a centralized server. While such a feature could make troubleshooting easier, it would come with high server maintenance costs and compromise user privacy. The importance of secure communication is becoming increasingly critical, and K-9 Mail is dedicated to providing accessible email security in multiple ways, ensuring both secure connections to email servers and the confidentiality of the emails themselves. Ultimately, our focus is on equipping users with tools that not only improve functionality but also protect their sensitive information, fostering a safer online environment for everyone. In this way, K-9 Mail stands as a robust solution in the realm of secure email communication.

    New look at old favourite

    Date: Aug 19 2024
    Summary

Getting towards being the mobile version of Mozilla Thunderbird, but not there yet.
Being an android application there is no facility for 'one key' emailing to multiple address books.
Useful if, like me, you send and receive images and as stated above, you have the option of opening them or not.

    Positive

    Easy to set up.
Use as many addresses as you like.
    Free.
Quite colourful text, making it easy to read incoming mail.
Has unified inbox if that's your thing.
Has all the usual things e.g. notifiers and and signatures - general or specific

    Negative

It prompts for new emails, but only part downloads until given permission and or download images. It may be a security thing, but a pain if you are in a hurry.
When in unified inbox it's not clear which icon leads to which email address
    No calendar.
No associated address book, but contacts appear as you type in email address - which means you must remember them.
