What is Tosmana?

Tosmana acts as an essential resource for performing Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA). This software facilitates both csQCA (Crisp-Set Qualitative Comparative Analysis) and mvQCA (Multi-Value QCA) evaluations. For more comprehensive insights on QCA, you can check the website of Charles Ragin along with the COMPASSS Research Group. The software's development commenced in 2000, and after a hiatus, its version 1.4 was released in June 2016, marking a significant resurgence in its evolution. Additionally, a complete redesign of the website occurred in the same month. Users can easily transfer data into TOSMANA by copying it directly from a spreadsheet application. To do this, simply open your dataset in the spreadsheet program, select the relevant data cells along with the variable names in the first row, and copy them. In TOSMANA, you can then go to File>Import from Clipboard to import the data, which will overwrite any existing information in the software. After successfully completing the import process, it is crucial to save your file in the correct format to maintain data integrity. This streamlined approach not only simplifies data management but also significantly improves the overall experience for users. Furthermore, the ability to easily import data can save time and reduce errors in analysis.
