What is wysihtml?

Wysihtml offers a more adaptable and forgiving option compared to the xing/wysihtml5 open-source rich text editor. Its architecture is crafted to be free from reliance on specific libraries, packing all essential dependencies without the necessity for frameworks like jQuery or Prototype. Among the current bundled dependencies is rangy.js, which includes modules for textrange and selectionsaverestore, alongside base.js. Supported by Voog, this project aims to create a wysiwyg HTML rich text editor that is accessible to all web developers for integration into their work. Notably, it is designed for speed and efficiency, featuring capabilities such as automatic URL linking during text entry and generating valid, semantic HTML5, even when content is copied from Word, all without the use of iframes or jQuery. Moreover, it is modular, giving users the flexibility to add their own custom tools. The namespace for the project has shifted from wysihtml5 to wysihtml, resulting in changes to all class names and event identifiers. In addition, the default toolbar has been restructured into a standalone module (wysihtml.toolbar.js) that needs to be included separately for it to work. This editor not only enhances the ease of rich text editing for developers but also prioritizes both performance and customizable options, making it a valuable tool in modern web development. With each update, it continues to evolve, adapting to the needs of its users and the changing landscape of web technologies.
