What is DeskProto?

DeskProto is a versatile 3D CAM software designed for creating CNC milling operations across 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis machines. This program supports the importing of various file types, including 2D vector formats like DXF, SVG, AI, and EPS, as well as 3D geometric files such as STL and DXF, and even bitmap images. It also provides functionality for calculating CNC toolpaths based on your designs. Once the paths are generated, users can easily export the toolpath files to a wide range of compatible machines, as the software boasts an extensive list of supported models. DeskProto is offered in several editions: free, entry-level, expert, and multi-axis, catering to different user needs. Additionally, hobbyists have the option to obtain an affordable hobby license for the more advanced editions, making it accessible for personal projects. This flexibility makes DeskProto a popular choice among both professionals and enthusiasts in the CNC milling community.

What is CAMWorks?

CAMWorks, which is seamlessly integrated into SOLIDWORKS and Solid Edge, effectively minimizes the repetitive CAM rework typically necessitated by design changes. It enhances the manufacturing workflow by automatically modifying machining operations and toolpaths to accommodate any revisions in design. With its Automatic Feature Recognition capability, CAMWorks interprets part designs, significantly reducing the complexity of programming tasks. This software maintains a cohesive link between the design environment and the machining process, ensuring that updates to the part model are promptly reflected, thereby eliminating the time-consuming rework associated with traditional CAM systems. Remarkably, this innovative tool can decrease machining time by as much as 85% and extend tool life by up to 500%, even when handling the most challenging materials. Furthermore, the incorporation of knowledge-based machining allows for the effective capture and reuse of superior programming techniques via the Technology Database, TechDB™, which can drastically cut programming time by around 80%. In summary, CAMWorks not only boosts operational efficiency but also significantly enhances the dependability of the entire machining process, making it a valuable asset in modern manufacturing. Moreover, its capabilities ensure that manufacturers can remain competitive and responsive to design changes with minimal disruption.
