What is Glipper?

Glipper acts as a clipboard manager specifically designed for the GNOME desktop environment, enabling users to maintain a record of their copied text for convenient access. It improves the user experience by offering a range of plugins that add various functionalities. Unlike previous versions that functioned as a GNOME applet, the newest release utilizes an app indicator, providing compatibility with both Ubuntu Unity and the Gnome Classic interface. This application allows users on Unix-like systems to revisit a log of X Selections, facilitating quick reselection for pasting. Glipper is often compared to KDE's Klipper, serving as its counterpart within the GNOME ecosystem. While earlier versions were capable of operating outside of GNOME, the current iteration, version 1.0, is designed solely for GNOME due to its extensive integration with GNOME features. However, it retains the ability to work within Xfce4's panel by leveraging the XfApplet wrapper, making it usable in any custom session that incorporates xfce4-panel, such as those running Openbox. This adaptability ensures users can take full advantage of Glipper's functionalities across various desktop environments, enhancing productivity and workflow efficiency. The ongoing development and updates promise to further improve its compatibility and features in the future.

What is Clapper?

Clapper is a modern and stylish media player crafted for the GNOME desktop environment, built using GJS alongside the GTK4 framework. Serving as its backend, GStreamer facilitates the media playback while OpenGL handles the rendering process. The player is designed to work effortlessly on both Xorg and Wayland systems, ensuring a smooth experience in various setups. Additionally, Clapper leverages hardware acceleration capabilities, incorporating VA-API for AMD and Intel GPUs, NVDEC for NVIDIA graphics cards, and V4L2 specifically for mobile devices. Its graphical user interface (GUI) is adaptable, transitioning to a "windowed mode" that primarily utilizes standard GTK widgets to maintain consistency with the native appearance of the operating system. In "fullscreen mode," the GUI elements shift to exhibit darker, larger, and semi-transparent features, thereby enhancing the overall viewing experience. Furthermore, it includes a unique "floating mode," which keeps the video visible over other applications, akin to a picture-in-picture (PiP) setup. The transitions are fine-tuned for mobile devices, ensuring ease of use. Recent updates have optimized the automatic selection of the GL/GLES context, while the player also benefits from various patches that enhance performance or introduce exclusive features in the Flatpak version, thereby elevating the user experience. Clapper's ongoing development actively seeks to incorporate user feedback, promising continuous improvements and new features for upcoming releases. This commitment to user satisfaction emphasizes the importance of community engagement in shaping the application’s future.
