What is INTRACK?

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite navigation service developed by the United States Department of Defense and managed by the United States Air Force's 50th Space Wing. As the only fully operational global navigation satellite system (GNSS), it is offered free of charge to users across the globe and has gained significant popularity among civilians for various navigation needs. The system operates through a constellation of 24 to 32 satellites positioned in medium Earth orbit, which transmit precise radio signals that allow GPS devices to determine their location, speed, and time. Officially known as NAVSTAR GPS, it has been fully operational since April 27, 1995, and has transformed into a vital resource for navigation worldwide. In addition to its primary function, GPS is widely used for tasks such as map making, land surveying, commercial applications, scientific research, tracking activities, and recreational activities like geocaching, showcasing its multifaceted role and significance in contemporary life. Its widespread adaptation across various sectors underscores the critical role GPS plays in enhancing efficiency and accuracy in numerous fields.
