What is Kymolog?

Kymolog functions as a holistic platform designed to unify medical device data and promote research, serving a diverse clientele that includes hospitals, medical device manufacturers, and research teams. Its cutting-edge edge agent consolidates data from a range of devices, such as continuous glucose monitors, ECG monitors, pulse oximeters, blood-pressure monitors, and thermometers, converting these metrics into FHIR R4 Observations that encompass crucial elements like LOINC codes, UCUM units, device identifiers, and timestamps. By associating these readings with specific patients and encounters through bed or device assignments, the system efficiently transmits this information to a hospital's existing electronic health record (EHR) system using either FHIR R4 or an HL7 v2 interface engine. Moreover, the collected data can be archived in a specialized research repository, ensuring its device and time provenance is preserved for clinical studies and post-market evidence collection. Kymolog's adaptable architecture enables it to function either on-site, within a hospital-managed private cloud, or through the cloud infrastructure of device manufacturers, and it also provides an optional hosted research store for de-identified data. Users can further customize device classes beyond the standard mappings available on the platform, enhancing its flexibility for a variety of research applications. This wide-ranging adaptability guarantees that Kymolog is well-equipped to address the continuously changing requirements of healthcare data integration and the evolving landscape of research methodologies. The platform’s capacity to evolve alongside technological advancements illustrates its commitment to improving healthcare outcomes through innovative data solutions.

What is HL7 FHIR?

FHIR is described as a 'RESTful' framework, which corresponds with the broader industry understanding of REST principles. However, it mainly operates at Level 2 of the REST Maturity Model in its fundamental specifications, while full Level 3 compliance can be achieved through the integration of extensions. As a standardized framework, FHIR depends on the consistency of resource structures and interfaces, which some critics might argue is at odds with REST's foundational concepts; nevertheless, this standardization is essential for ensuring effective interoperability among diverse systems. Each distinct "resource type" comes with a specific set of interactions, enabling meticulous resource management. Applications that claim to comply with this framework identify as "RESTful FHIR," highlighting their commitment to these established standards. Moreover, within this RESTful architecture, transactions are conducted directly on server resources through HTTP requests and responses, reinforcing the framework's functionality and integrity. This organized methodology not only boosts interoperability but also simplifies the development process for applications leveraging FHIR, ultimately leading to more efficient healthcare solutions. Additionally, the clarity provided by FHIR's structured approach helps developers focus on creating robust applications that can easily integrate with existing health information systems.
