What is L-Edit Photonics?

Develop your photonic integrated circuit using a layout-centric workflow that provides designers the flexibility to choose between a drag-and-drop interface and a script-based method. Both options are supported by an extensive custom IC design layout editor, which also oversees the physical verification and tape-out phases. L-Edit Photonics enables swift creation of photonic designs with its user-friendly drag-and-drop feature, which eliminates the necessity for programming. Once the design is complete, a netlist can be generated to facilitate photonic simulations. The integration of the PIC design within the IC layout editor allows users to create layouts without any coding, promoting a layout-focused approach that operates independently of a schematic. For those inclined towards a schematic flow, S-Edit serves as an optional resource. Furthermore, a simulation netlist can be derived for use in a photonic simulator, with photonic simulations being easily integrated through collaborations with various providers. Additionally, numerous foundries supply photonic PDKs to bolster design capabilities. This robust workflow not only simplifies the photonic design process but also accommodates a wide range of designer preferences and methodologies, ensuring that both novice and experienced designers can effectively create and simulate their circuits.

What is Copperhead?

Copperhead serves as a collaborative open-source AI platform designed to support hardware teams in the intricate tasks of circuit board design, validation, and production. Users can effortlessly initiate the process by providing a description of a modification or a product brief, prompting the AI to accurately edit existing KiCad files, update associated documentation, and execute KiCad's built-in validation checks until they all succeed. The thorough workflow includes multiple stages such as outlining specifications, defining architecture, selecting components, designing schematics, creating layouts, generating outputs, developing firmware, and establishing a development strategy, ensuring that each step yields a concrete artifact saved on disk before moving forward. Validation gates assess various factors including adherence to budget, analysis of logical subsystems, component numbers backed by datasheets, compliance with ERC standards in schematics, DRC-compliant layouts, generation of Gerber files, firmware source code preparation, and detailed bring-up plans. Furthermore, Copperhead can accommodate changes to pre-existing boards; users can point it to a KiCad repository, initiate the project, and request particular modifications. The adjustments made are specifically targeted at the KiCad source files, ensuring they are minimal and easily reviewable, while preserving the integrity of other sections. This efficient methodology facilitates a smooth revision process that significantly reduces potential disruptions to the overall project timeline, ultimately enhancing the productivity of hardware teams.
