What is OpenFaaS?

OpenFaaS® streamlines the process of deploying serverless functions and pre-existing applications on Kubernetes, enabling users to leverage Docker and avoid vendor lock-in. Its flexibility allows it to run seamlessly on any public or private cloud, facilitating the development of microservices and functions across numerous programming languages, including older code and binaries. The platform features automatic scaling based on demand and can even scale down to zero when idle. Users can choose to develop on their personal laptops, make use of on-premises infrastructure, or establish a cloud cluster, while Kubernetes manages the underlying complexities. This capability empowers developers to build a scalable and resilient event-driven serverless architecture tailored to their software needs. OpenFaaS also invites users to dive in quickly, enabling them to start experimenting within just 60 seconds and write and deploy their first Python function in roughly 10 to 15 minutes. Afterward, participants can enhance their understanding through the OpenFaaS workshop, which offers a series of self-paced labs designed to impart critical skills and insights about functions and their practical applications. Moreover, the platform cultivates a community that promotes sharing, reusing, and collaborating on functions, while simultaneously reducing repetitive code through a template store that simplifies the coding process. This collaborative ecosystem not only boosts productivity but also significantly enriches the overall development experience, fostering innovation and creativity among users. Ultimately, OpenFaaS stands out as a powerful tool for both new and experienced developers alike.

What is Lura?

Lura is a versatile and high-performance API Gateway framework that is both extendable and stateless, making it suitable for use in cloud-native and on-premises settings alike. In the realm of REST APIs, especially within microservices architectures, users frequently find themselves needing to communicate with backend services that may not have been initially designed to cater to the user interface requirements. While this communication model proves advantageous, it can also lead to heightened complexity and increased challenges for UI consumers due to the diverse sizes and formats of responses from various microservices. Lura acts as an effective intermediary between clients and source servers, streamlining interactions by providing only the critical information necessary for the UI. By consolidating data from multiple sources into unified endpoints, it allows users to organize, wrap, transform, and simplify responses as needed. In addition, the framework is equipped with strong support for a variety of middlewares and plugins that can further enhance its capabilities, such as integrating Oauth for authentication and implementing extra security protocols. With Lura in place, developers can optimize their API interactions, significantly alleviating the burden on front-end applications and improving overall efficiency. Ultimately, Lura empowers teams to focus on delivering exceptional user experiences without getting bogged down by the intricacies of back-end services.
