What is OpendTect?

OpendTect software consists of two primary segments: an open-source portion that is accessible at no cost and a closed-source segment that requires a commercial license through FlexNet. The open-source part, called OpendTect, functions as a seismic interpretation system that supports both 2D and 3D seismic data, promoting the swift creation of new interpretation tools. Users can expand the functionality of OpendTect by employing various complimentary plugins. In contrast, the closed-source section, known as OpendTect Pro, provides a more sophisticated version with enhanced features tailored for professional users. Additionally, OpendTect Pro supports the incorporation of commercial plugins, enabling specialized seismic interpretation workflows that are not present in the free version. This blend of open-source adaptability and commercial improvements positions OpendTect as a highly flexible option for geoscientists and industry experts. As a result, both segments cater to a wide range of user needs and preferences, further solidifying OpendTect's reputation in the geoscience community.

What is LiMon?

LiMon is a self-hosted alternative to OpenLM and Flexera FlexNet Manager, crafted for teams that need to oversee engineering license servers without implementing extensive IT asset management systems. This tool adeptly tracks usage across multiple licensing frameworks such as FlexLM, RLM, LM-X, and DSLS through a single on-premises device, delivering insights into utilization patterns, denials, peak usage, and generating audit-ready reports. In contrast to lmstat, which only shows real-time status, LiMon keeps a historical log, enabling users to verify past usage prior to renewal or audit sessions. The setup process is simple, typically requiring around 15 minutes through Docker, DEB, or RPM, and it functions in a completely air-gapped mode, which negates the need for agents on any devices, removes cloud reliance, and ensures there is no data transmission back to external servers, making it particularly suited for highly secure environments. The pricing model is straightforward and fixed, featuring a perpetual platform license along with an optional annual subscription that includes access to reports, analytics, Active Directory/LDAP integration, and customer support services. This distinctive blend of capabilities positions LiMon as an attractive option for organizations in search of a streamlined, secure, and effective license management solution, while also fostering a user-friendly experience. With its focus on simplicity and security, LiMon stands out in the license management market.
