What is PeeringDB?

PeeringDB operates as an open-access, community-oriented database that houses vital networking information, serving as the leading source for details related to interconnections. It is instrumental in promoting global connectivity among networks at Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), data centers, and various interconnection hubs, acting as a key resource for users to make well-informed decisions regarding interconnections. Managed by volunteers as a non-profit entity, PeeringDB is dedicated to supporting the continuous advancement of the Internet. Users can navigate and edit the PeeringDB database through a user-friendly web interface or API, which allows for easy integration into their personalized applications. Additionally, PeeringDB provides the peeringdb-py library, which serves as a guide for establishing a local data cache, encouraging the adoption of this tool or similar solutions to help users remain within the constraints of API query limits. Moreover, PeeringDB offers a dataset formatted in .KMZ that includes geographic coordinates for numerous interconnection facilities, thereby enhancing the resources available to its users. This commitment to fostering user engagement and ensuring data accessibility significantly bolsters the overall interconnection framework of the Internet, while also encouraging innovation within the community.

What is Nokia Session Border Controller (SBC)?

Nokia's Session Border Controller (SBC) is essential for protecting signaling and control media as they move across the boundaries of the IMS network. Strategically located at the edges of access networks, it not only secures different types of IP access but also ensures the efficient delivery of all IMS services. Furthermore, its placement at the periphery of peering networks facilitates smooth roaming, IMS interconnection, and corporate SIP trunking operations. The SBC offers a multitude of features, including bearer traffic encryption and decryption, firewall functions, and topology hiding for improved security. It also handles media processing, transcoding, SIP interworking, and NAT traversal. The SBC can function independently or be incorporated into Nokia’s VoLTE/VoWiFi architecture. For VoIP services targeted at both residential and enterprise customers, it includes strong defenses against DoS/DDoS attacks, guarantees network topology protection from access points, allows for NAT traversal, and supports a variety of codecs such as G.729, G.722, and T.38 Fax. In addition, within a VoLTE core network, it manages access and supports mobility features, providing an EVS codec and compatibility with eSRVCC, VoWiFi, NPLI, S8HR roaming, and other advanced functionalities, thereby significantly enhancing the overall communication experience. The versatility and robustness of the SBC make it a pivotal component in modern telecommunications infrastructure.
