What is Quest Identity Defense?

Quest Identity Defense, formerly called Security Guardian, is an agentic AI-powered identity threat detection and security platform for hybrid Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID environments. It provides continuous visibility and observability across both human and non-human identities to help organizations identify and investigate identity-related security risks. The platform detects Tier 0 exposures, privileged attack paths, risky configurations, anomalous activity, and vulnerabilities associated with workload and other non-human identities. Identity posture management benchmarks Active Directory and Entra ID configurations against industry best practices and provides remediation guidance for identified vulnerabilities and compromises. Proactive object protection is designed to prevent unauthorized or dangerous changes to critical Tier 0 objects before those changes result in compromise. During an active incident, Shields Up and agentic AI defense capabilities can automatically freeze vulnerable users or objects, stop attacks in progress, and limit lateral movement through the environment. Deep monitoring and auditing provide human-readable records showing who performed a change, what was modified, when and where the event occurred, and which workstation was involved. Integrated AI analyzes identity telemetry and converts it into security insights and remediation recommendations that can help security teams reduce investigation and response time. Quest states that Identity Defense can improve mean time to respond by 44% by helping teams reduce alert fatigue and move more quickly from detection to investigation and containment. The platform includes a flexible API for extending identity security data into existing security ecosystems and custom workflows, while its auditing capabilities can also help organizations improve compliance readiness.

What is Permiso?

Permiso is an enterprise identity security platform built to protect every identity operating across cloud, SaaS, on-premises, hybrid, and AI-driven environments. The platform combines identity discovery, runtime identity attribution, identity security posture management, identity threat detection and response, and AI identity security into a unified security architecture. Its Universal Identity Graph creates continuous relationships between users, service accounts, non-human identities, AI agents, credentials, workloads, machines, permissions, infrastructure resources, and runtime actions to provide complete identity lineage. Unlike traditional identity providers that primarily monitor authentication, Permiso extends visibility into runtime activity, allowing security teams to observe tool calls, MCP invocations, serverless functions, workload creation, sub-agent execution, API interactions, and privilege inheritance throughout an identity's lifecycle. The platform inventories identities across cloud providers, SaaS applications, CI/CD pipelines, and enterprise infrastructure while identifying overprivileged accounts, stale credentials, toxic permission combinations, and identities most likely to be compromised. Permiso continuously monitors runtime behavior to detect anomalous activity, lateral movement, credential theft, insider threats, account takeover, and attacks targeting AI agents or machine identities. Security teams can investigate incidents using correlated runtime and control plane activity while leveraging more than 1,500 threat detection signals developed by Permiso's P0 Labs research team. The platform includes dedicated capabilities for identity visibility, identity intelligence, identity posture management, identity threat detection and response, non-human identity security, and AI agent runtime security.
