What is SampleTron?

SampleTron 2 combines the celebrated sound engine of IK's well-regarded SampleTank 4 with advanced tape modeling technology, effectively recreating the lush sounds characteristic of tape samplers from the 1960s and 1970s, as well as the distinctive tones from early digital sample players and vocoders. Its expansive library comprises carefully sampled vintage tapes from Mellotron® and Chamberlin, a collection of newly recorded acoustic sounds treated with tape effects, and the remarkable option to import your own samples, enabling you to create customized audiophile Tron sounds. With 8GB of virtual instrument assets, this tool features an impressive selection of vintage and tape-inspired samplers. Users can explore over 400 tracks recorded from iconic instruments such as Mellotrons, Chamberlins, and Optigans, with each preset capable of using three tracks for splitting, layering, and soloing from this extensive library. Furthermore, it presents a range of contemporary non-Tron instruments, adding to its rich assortment of vintage digital samples, which guarantees a broad sonic palette for every creator. Overall, SampleTron 2 stands out as a versatile tool that caters to a wide array of musical styles and production techniques.

What is Hydrogen?

The software boasts a user-friendly, rapid, and modular graphical interface developed with QT 4, ensuring simplicity in navigation. It features a sample-based stereo audio engine capable of importing sound samples across diverse formats such as .wav, .au, and .aiff, while also supporting compressed FLAC files. Users can utilize a pattern-based sequencer that allows for an unlimited number of patterns, enabling them to seamlessly connect these patterns into complete compositions. Each pattern supports up to 192 ticks and provides individual event levels along with adjustable pattern lengths. Furthermore, the platform accommodates an unlimited number of instrument tracks, each providing functionalities such as volume control, mute, solo, and panning options. A standout feature includes the ability to create multi-layered instruments, allowing up to 16 samples per instrument for richer soundscapes. Time-stretching and pitch modifications are facilitated through the integration of the rubberband cli, which necessitates the installation of the rubberband-cli package. The Director Window is enhanced with a visual metronome and song position tags, significantly improving user engagement. Additionally, users can easily export and import individual patterns within their song projects, and MIDI learning can be enabled by a Shift+MouseClick on various GUI elements, supported by a MIDI settings editor. The software introduces distinctive functionalities aimed at humanizing velocity, timing, pitch, and swing, thus broadening the creative options available to users. Overall, the comprehensive feature set of this software positions it as an exceptional choice for music producers at any experience level, making it a versatile tool in the realm of music creation. This intricate design fosters not only productivity but also inspires creativity in the music-making process.
