School Attendance vs. Gradelink SIS

The Office of School Support team is committed to improving school attendance throughout the district. When students are absent from class, it hinders their ability to stay prepared and engaged in their learning experiences. This attendance team works closely with schools, families, students, and partners from Ramsey County to address attendance issues as soon as they arise. It is essential for parents or guardians to notify the school whenever their child is absent since not every absence will qualify as excused. To report an absence, parents must either contact the main office or provide a written note that clearly explains the reason for the absence. The attendance support process within SPPS unfolds in three stages, escalating in seriousness if a student continues to have unexcused absences. If a student reaches three unexcused absences, a notification letter is sent home to inform parents. If the student continues to miss school without a valid excuse, the school will begin the intervention process, which highlights the importance of regular attendance and the collaborative efforts required to support each student's educational path. Ultimately, fostering a strong partnership between the school and families is key to ensuring students remain engaged and succeed academically.
