Scrubs vs. Mint

Scrubs is a specialized disk-space analysis application tailored for Mac users, assisting them in identifying what consumes their storage and guiding them in making decisions about what to remove. It conducts a comprehensive scan of the hard drive, presenting folder and file sizes in an easy-to-understand treemap format and a sortable list, with updates occurring in real-time throughout the scanning process. The application is equipped with search options and displays for the largest files, enabling users to swiftly find specific items while also offering cleanup suggestions for areas such as Xcode's DerivedData, outdated simulators, node_modules, and package caches. Furthermore, it recognizes applications that may no longer be in use, ensuring users have a thorough method for managing their disk space. When users select items for deletion, those files are sent to the Trash, allowing for seamless restoration via an Undo feature, and they are notified of the amount of space that will be freed up before they confirm any permanent deletions. Scrubs works locally on Macs and can execute scans with elevated privileges for better visibility into disk usage. It supports macOS versions 15 and later, including Apple silicon devices. The scanning functionality is available for free, allowing for two deletions at no cost, while a paid license permits use on up to three Macs, creating a flexible solution for efficient storage management. This tool not only streamlines the disk space reclamation process but also encourages users to keep their digital spaces organized and clutter-free. By utilizing Scrubs, users can ensure their Macs run smoothly and efficiently, leading to an improved overall computing experience.

Mint is an application for macOS that focuses on managing storage and organizing files, specifically designed for developers, freelancers, and studios that use individual Macs. It provides a clear visualization of disk space usage, enabling users to evaluate caches, build artifacts, application leftovers, and data from compatible AI coding environments before they start the cleanup process. Users can explore suggested strategies for folder organization, carry out their preferred file movements, and initiate available Auto Care routines while utilizing Mint. The Optimize feature assists in reducing storage space used by eligible duplicate or compatible files, all without deleting them from their original locations. Moreover, Mint Direct includes a command-line interface and a Model Context Protocol server, which help in executing storage queries and cleanup tasks based on predefined scan plans; however, these tools do not encompass every feature found in the main application. All processes related to file analysis and organization are performed locally on the Mac, ensuring privacy and security. The availability of features, free allowances, recovery options, and licensing details varies depending on the specific edition and the actions taken. It is crucial to highlight that Mint requires macOS version 14 or later for optimal performance. In addition to the above, this application greatly improves the user's ability to keep their digital workspace organized and efficient. Ultimately, Mint stands out as a valuable tool for anyone looking to effectively manage their Mac's storage and maintain a tidy environment.
