What is Sherlock Forensics Recover?

Sherlock Forensics Recover is an advanced desktop application for Windows that enables users to delve into drives and disk images, create forensic images, and retrieve deleted files. It is compatible with both Windows 10 and 11 and accommodates a wide range of file systems, including FAT32, NTFS, exFAT, APFS, HFS+, ext, XFS, Btrfs, and ZFS. Users have the option to perform both fast and thorough scans, incorporating features such as signature-based carving, lost-partition recovery, and RAID reconstruction. The software utilizes file metadata, signature locations, or educated assumptions to identify results and marks files that may have been overwritten. Moreover, it produces self-contained offline HTML reports, logs SHA-256 hashes, and ensures that the original drive remains untouched throughout its processes. There is a free version available, while the Pro version, which can be purchased for a one-time cost of $295, offers additional recovery enhancements and the capability to analyze pagefiles for URLs, paths, IP addresses, and credentials. Designed specifically for forensic examiners, IT experts, and data recovery specialists, this tool stands out for its comprehensive features. Furthermore, the installation package is signed with EV and verified using SHA-256, providing an extra layer of security during setup. With its extensive functionality, it serves as a dependable resource for those in need of meticulous forensic investigations and data recovery tasks.

What is File Recovery Hero?

File Recovery Hero excels in retrieving deleted and lost media files, including images, videos, and audio, from exFAT memory cards and NTFS drives, as well as from uncompressed disk images such as IMG, DD, RAW, and BIN. When dealing with NTFS, it utilizes the Master File Table to recover deleted files while preserving their original names and folder paths, rather than treating them as anonymous fragments. Notably, the source medium is only read during the recovery process, ensuring that it remains unaltered, untouched, and free from any repairs or formatting. To preserve data integrity, all recovered files are transferred to a different physical drive. It’s essential to recognize that seeing a file name in the results does not guarantee that the file has been successfully recovered; thus, validation of recovered media is performed, which includes verification of structure and expected size, as well as the demuxing and decoding of media files. Any results that cannot be verified are marked as UNVERIFIED, making it clear to the user regarding their status. Users can choose from 34 distinct file formats, but it's crucial to understand that the service is limited to exFAT and NTFS file systems, does not accommodate physically damaged drives, cannot circumvent encryption, and does not promise successful recovery results. Offered at a one-time fee of 50 euros, this service provides a decade of coverage across two devices without requiring a subscription, making it a simple and cost-effective solution for those in need of file recovery. Additionally, the commitment to user transparency ensures that clients are fully informed about the recovery process and the status of their files.
