What is Smartgrade?

Smartgrade is a cloud-based AI exam grading and educational assessment platform that automates the evaluation of handwritten and digital student work. The software combines computer vision, optical character recognition, and generative AI to interpret examination responses and assign scores based on predefined grading criteria. Teachers can scan an entire classroom's exams into one PDF document and upload the file for automated processing. Its student recognition capabilities identify individual submissions and match them to classroom rosters without requiring educators to separate every examination manually. Customizable grading rubrics allow teachers to establish scoring scales, question weights, partial credit rules, spelling penalties, and other evaluation requirements. An anchor paper calibration feature enables educators to upload a previously graded exam so the AI can better align its scoring with the teacher's expectations. The platform generates detailed reports for each student, including overall grades, question-by-question evaluations, and personalized explanations of mistakes or areas for improvement. Teachers retain control over final results and can modify individual scores, revise feedback, and choose between encouraging, rigorous, or constructive feedback styles. Learning analytics provide visibility into class averages, grade distributions, individual performance, and achievement against applicable educational standards. Smartgrade also supports collaborative group project assessment through rubrics that account for both team outcomes and individual contributions. Additional capabilities include recognition of more than 80 languages, downloadable PDF reports, gradebook exports, centralized school administration, institution-wide analytics, and student data protection controls.

What is Examino?

Grading a stack of handwritten exams can eat up an entire weekend. Examino is an AI grading platform that prepares the grading work for teachers, so they spend their time checking results instead of starting from a blank page. The platform is subject-agnostic. Literature essays, algebra, physics lab reports, foreign language tests, business case studies: whatever the assignment, Examino’s AI grading follows the teacher’s own rubric and expectations. It serves secondary school teachers as well as universities, business and engineering schools, vocational programs and training providers. How it works Add the assignment, plus an optional answer key or lecture notes for extra context. Bring in student work. A single multi-student PDF from the photocopier is separated into individual submissions automatically. Images, Word documents, spreadsheets and slide decks are accepted too, and a QR code lets teachers photograph pages with a smartphone, no download required. Review the suggested score and the comments written for every rubric criterion. Change anything you disagree with, then validate. Download marked-up submissions and per-student reports as PDF or Word files. Beyond individual scores, a dashboard summarizes performance across the group. Examino also detects the mistakes students make most often and creates remediation exercises tailored to those gaps. Adoption: over 30,000 teachers rely on Examino for AI grading, with more than 500,000 papers processed and an interface in English, French, German and Spanish. Plans: every teacher gets 10 free papers each month. Paid individual subscriptions begin at $7.50 per month. Institutions buy AI grading licenses for their teaching staff and manage users from an administrator dashboard, with deployment in under 24 hours and onboarding at no extra cost. Privacy: data is stored in the EU under GDPR, names are redacted from submissions automatically, and no student content is ever used for model training
