What is Supermicro MicroCloud?

The 3U systems are engineered to support 24, 12, or 8 nodes, each equipped with 4 DIMM slots and the flexibility to utilize hot-swappable 3.5” or 2.5” NVMe/SAS3/SATA3 drives. With onboard 10 Gigabit Ethernet, these systems are crafted for superior cost-effectiveness. The MicroCloud’s modular architecture promotes high density, simplifies maintenance, and maintains affordability, all of which are essential for today's hyper-scale environments. Housed within a compact 3U chassis that is less than 30 inches deep, these modular server nodes can achieve over 76% space savings in racks compared to traditional 1U servers. This series of MicroCloud servers is tailored for single socket computing, optimized specifically for hyper-scale data centers, utilizing cutting-edge power-efficient system-on-chip (SoC) processors like the Intel® Xeon® E/D/E3/E5 and Intel® Atom® C Processors, thus enabling versatile and scalable solutions for cloud and edge computing. Additionally, power and I/O ports are conveniently located at the front of the chassis, making server provisioning, upgrades, and maintenance faster and easier, which significantly boosts operational productivity. The thoughtful design of these systems underscores their importance in accommodating the growing demands of modern computing infrastructures.

What is Supermicro MicroBlade?

The highly compact design of 3U and 6U blade servers is impressive and versatile, featuring configurations that can host up to four autonomous UP nodes within each blade. These servers are engineered to deliver exceptional power efficiency, reaching up to 86%, while also achieving a density increase of 56% compared to traditional 1U rackmount servers. Each node is capable of supporting as much as 256GB of DDR4 memory distributed across eight DIMM slots, thus ensuring optimal performance. Moreover, they are fitted with high-efficiency AC/DC power supplies that meet Platinum and Titanium standards (96%), and the inclusion of optional Battery Backup Power (BBP®) support further enhances their reliability. The design accommodates dual Intel® Xeon® processor families from the E5-2600 v4/v3 series, along with the ability to integrate four 2.5" SAS3/SATA3 drives per blade server and up to two M.2 NVMe drives in select models. A shared infrastructure for cooling, power, and networking plays a vital role in achieving the remarkable density and efficiency that blade servers are known for. Additionally, Supermicro's MicroBlade initiative promotes a resource-efficient paradigm through its Disaggregated Server Design, which allows for separate upgrades of compute modules while keeping the remaining server infrastructure intact, significantly reducing the overall cost of ownership. This forward-thinking strategy not only boosts flexibility but also empowers users to tailor their systems to adapt to changing requirements without necessitating extensive system renovations. Thus, the integration of these advanced features positions blade servers as a robust solution for modern computing demands.
