What is Urban Network Analysis Toolbox for ArcGIS?

The City Form Lab has introduced a groundbreaking toolbox tailored for the examination of urban networks. This pioneering ArcGIS toolbox stands out as the first of its kind, incorporating centrality tools that enable the calculation of five unique graph analysis metrics on spatial networks: reach, gravity, betweenness, closeness, and straightness. Furthermore, it contains redundancy tools that compute the redundancy index, pinpoint redundant pathways, and evaluate the wayfinding index. Remarkably, these tools feature three significant capabilities that enhance their utility in spatial analysis of urban street networks. To begin with, they can take into account both geometry and topology in the input networks, allowing the incorporation of metric distance (like meters) and topological distance (such as turns) as impedance factors during analysis. Additionally, unlike previous software that only addressed two network components—nodes and edges—the UNA tools introduce a third component: buildings, which act as the spatial units for all analytical evaluations. This holistic methodology not only bolsters the precision of urban analysis but also yields richer insights into the interactions within urban settings. As urban environments continue to evolve, such tools will be essential for planners and researchers aiming to understand complex urban dynamics.

What is GREENPASS?

As cities around the world undergo rapid urbanization, they are increasingly exposed to the detrimental impacts of climate change. The challenges faced by urban areas, such as Urban Heat Islands (UHI), air pollution, and flooding of surface waters, pose significant risks to both development and the health of residents. It is crucial for local authorities to adopt effective strategies that tackle the issues associated with urban growth and climate change. GREENPASS emerges as an essential resource for planners, developers, and municipalities, offering insights that aid in making informed decisions throughout the urban planning and development phases while addressing a range of urban challenges. This cutting-edge platform allows users to visualize, quantify, and evaluate the impact of green infrastructure alongside other structural solutions on the urban environment. By providing customized approaches for each step of the urban planning process, from initial assessments to final execution, GREENPASS plays a vital role in promoting sustainable urban development. Notably, it leverages preliminary analyses derived from machine learning evaluations in conjunction with conventional BASIC simulations, delivering a thorough understanding for urban planners. Furthermore, the integration of advanced data analytics positions GREENPASS as a leader in the quest for resilient cities amidst the ongoing climate crises.
