What is VABS?

VABS serves as a popular instrument for conducting cross-sectional analyses, enabling quick and uncomplicated calculations of beam properties and the retrieval of three-dimensional fields in composite beams, commonly utilized in components like helicopter and wind turbine blades. It is unique in its capacity to disentangle a complex 3D slender solid with intricate microstructures into a basic engineering beam model. Developed by AnalySwift, which has its roots in aerospace, tools specifically designed for composite beams, including those used in helicopter rotor blades, propellers, high aspect ratio wings, and various wing section designs, as well as plates, shells, and three-dimensional frameworks, have emerged. VABS has been applied in the wind turbine sector for several years, consistently delivering rapid and accurate modeling results for wind turbine blades. Additionally, SwiftComp broadens its functionality, providing solutions for plates, shells, and 3D composite configurations. As the automotive industry increasingly adopts composite materials in vehicle construction, there is a significant opportunity to apply both SwiftComp and VABS for modeling a wide spectrum of structural forms, including beams, plates, and shells, further enhancing their usability. The adaptability and efficiency of these tools render them essential across various engineering fields, thus fostering innovative designs in multiple industries.

What is SteelTally?

SteelTally is a dedicated Windows application designed specifically for the structural steel sector, serving the requirements of fabricators, detailers, and estimators alike. Its functionality includes the ability to read PDF and DXF drawings, swiftly identifying beam and column markers on framing layouts while also flagging any missing annotations. Equipped with measurement tools, the software accurately measures lengths for straight, curved, and polyline beams, ensuring precision in all calculations. It also provides column diagrams that incorporate welded caps, connection plates, and base plates, while truss tools break down assemblies into individual chords, verticals, and diagonals for easier management. Estimators can input rates for steel, galvanizing, and paint, generate prioritized stock-length cut lists that make the most of offcuts, and evaluate crane reach to facilitate logistical strategies. The software features a revision comparison tool that allows users to compare different versions of drawings, helping them identify newly added, deleted, renamed, or resized components. Outputs such as member lists, cut lists, and revision summaries can easily be exported to Excel or PDF formats, simplifying the process of sharing information. SteelTally also provides specifications for Australian section sizes and weights, ensuring compliance with local standards, and operates independently on Windows without necessitating internet connectivity for drawing uploads or artificial intelligence. Users can experience a fully functional 30-day trial without the requirement of a credit card, making it an appealing choice for professionals in the structural steel industry. Additionally, the intuitive interface of this software significantly boosts productivity for individuals engaged in steel estimation and detailing tasks, ultimately contributing to a more efficient workflow.
