What is vLLM?

vLLM is an innovative library specifically designed for the efficient inference and deployment of Large Language Models (LLMs). Originally developed at UC Berkeley's Sky Computing Lab, it has evolved into a collaborative project that benefits from input by both academia and industry. The library stands out for its remarkable serving throughput, achieved through its unique PagedAttention mechanism, which adeptly manages attention key and value memory. It supports continuous batching of incoming requests and utilizes optimized CUDA kernels, leveraging technologies such as FlashAttention and FlashInfer to enhance model execution speed significantly. In addition, vLLM accommodates several quantization techniques, including GPTQ, AWQ, INT4, INT8, and FP8, while also featuring speculative decoding capabilities. Users can effortlessly integrate vLLM with popular models from Hugging Face and take advantage of a diverse array of decoding algorithms, including parallel sampling and beam search. It is also engineered to work seamlessly across various hardware platforms, including NVIDIA GPUs, AMD CPUs and GPUs, and Intel CPUs, which assures developers of its flexibility and accessibility. This extensive hardware compatibility solidifies vLLM as a robust option for anyone aiming to implement LLMs efficiently in a variety of settings, further enhancing its appeal and usability in the field of machine learning.

What is Scalattice?

Scalattice operates as a managed inference API combined with a distributed GPU network, serving the needs of developers working with open models and GPU owners providing computational resources. Developers can submit requests for chat completions and image generation through endpoints that align with OpenAI’s standards, while also having the option to choose from a variety of models, manage API keys, track credits and usage, control model access, and adhere to regional policies using either Scalattice Cloud or its command-line tool. The requests are executed on the hardware of GPU providers, who receive compensation based on their documented usage within the platform. To participate, GPU providers must install the Scalattice agent on compatible systems running Windows, Linux, or Apple Silicon macOS, enabling them to configure their availability and monitor both job progress and earnings. This service caters to a wide range of users, including application developers, AI pioneers, and GPU operators who seek access to hosted inference services or wish to lend their computational power. Furthermore, the selection and pricing of models are influenced by the existing catalog and the available capacity, ensuring that users can find suitable options for their projects. Ultimately, Scalattice strives to connect developers with GPU providers, thereby improving the overall efficiency and effectiveness of AI model deployment in various applications. By fostering collaboration between these two groups, Scalattice enhances innovation in the field of artificial intelligence.
