What is Alchemist X?
Alchemist X is a cloud-native frame rate and video standards conversion platform developed by Grass Valley for professional broadcasting, live media production, and international content distribution. The software uses eighth-generation motion-compensated processing technology to convert video between broadcast standards while preserving image sharpness, motion continuity, and visual detail. Its algorithms analyze movement between frames to minimize conversion artifacts such as judder, ghosting, and unnatural motion during complex video sequences. Alchemist X provides multiple frame rate conversion options, including motion-compensated and linear processing, to accommodate different production requirements and performance considerations. The platform supports standard definition, HD, 1080p, and UHD 2160p formats, along with resolution upconversion, downconversion, and crossconversion. HDR and SDR processing includes color space transformation, HLG and PQ support, and custom lookup tables for maintaining consistent color reproduction across different delivery formats. Video processing capabilities include alias suppression, linear enhancement, picture adjustment controls, RGB legalizing, logo insertion, closed caption support, and ancillary data handling. Its audio engine processes up to 16 channels with configurable gain, channel mapping, and delay adjustments to maintain synchronization between audio and converted video. The platform performs real-time conversion of live media streams, allowing organizations to deliver international feeds and multiple video formats simultaneously within a production workflow. Alchemist X integrates with Grass Valley's AMPP environment and provides an HTML5 control interface that supports remote management and access by multiple operators.

FPS broadcast high quality converter. Yes it can upscale.
Date: Jan 22 2024SummaryAmazing product, allowed us to offer the best picture quality without added aliasing or frame recombination when broadcasting European sources in our North American broadcasts. Used in conjunction with Kronos, it is a wonderful tool to also keep the sync of your closed captioned material and all your audio tracks.
PositiveQuality conversion from European videos to North American broadcast formats without speeding or slowing the source. Keeps the included closed captions in sync. You can also do the reverse. Change of speed is applied also to the sound (25 to 23,976, 24 to 25fps...), absolutely great. It can also upscale your content, but no AI to improve the picture. It is not the strength of this software. But for regular broadcast works, it keeps the quality of the picture when your source is film content. Also very good results when video sources (interlaced) are used.
NegativeIt takes some times to find the correct parameters. Render process is quite slow (90 minutes movie may take 4 to 5 hours, depending on your hardware). Created for broadcast users. Pricey.
