What is BackupMGR?

BackupMGR is a self-hosted solution tailored for server backups, primarily aimed at system administrators, managed service providers, and hosting teams. It operates with a Go agent that communicates with a web control panel via outbound polling, while also supporting agentless connections through SFTP, rsync, or FTP for various hosts. Administrators can set up backup jobs to secure a wide array of data types, including files and databases like MySQL and PostgreSQL, as well as full disk images or combinations of files and databases. This platform excels at producing encrypted and deduplicated snapshots stored in S3-compatible storage, ensuring that repositories are isolated by host for enhanced security. Users have the ability to automate their backup routines by scheduling incremental backups and applying retention policies on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis; they can also review point-in-time snapshots and restore selected files to different locations. Furthermore, job status can be monitored through detailed logs, alerts, and health checks, offering reassurance to administrators about their backup processes. To simplify integration, a REST API is provided for managing hosts and jobs, launching backup runs, and exploring snapshots. Customers can install the control panel on their own Linux server and choose their desired storage solutions, tailoring the platform to meet their unique operational needs and improving their overall backup strategies. This flexibility allows for a customized approach to backup management, ensuring that organizations can align their processes with industry best practices.
