What is Castreon?
Castreon is an innovative software solution for live television headend management, designed to run on Linux servers and accessible through a web-based interface. It effectively processes feeds from a multitude of sources, such as DVB-C/T/T2 cards, IP cameras, and various network protocols including SRT, RIST, UDP, RTMP, HTTP, HLS, and DASH, and includes an automatic failover feature for source reliability. Users can choose to transcode their content utilizing either CPU or GPU resources, supporting a range of formats like H.264, HEVC, or AV1, with the added capability of producing adaptive-bitrate outputs to ensure smooth channel delivery via HLS, LL-HLS, DASH, HTTP-TS, and WebRTC, or for redistribution to other servers and content delivery networks. Moreover, the software allows for continuous streaming from media files, provides functionalities for catch-up and timeshift, and includes options for recording and clipping, alongside features such as access control, audience analytics, monitoring systems, alert notifications, and a REST API for seamless integration. Optional features further enhance its capabilities, offering support for SCTE-35, signed multi-CDN links, and digital rights management (DRM) options. Specifically built for deployment on operators' own Linux servers, Castreon serves a wide array of clients, ranging from broadcasters and cable and IPTV operators to OTT services, hotels, and internet service providers, all of whom benefit from improved live streaming capabilities and efficient content management processes. As a result, Castreon stands out as a comprehensive solution that meets the evolving needs of the broadcasting and streaming industries.
