What is Citi Virtual Account Numbers?
Citi improves the safety of my credit card transactions by offering a distinctive, randomly generated card number intended for online purchases. When I shop online or place an order by mail, I can choose to use this Virtual Account Number instead of revealing my actual account number. To begin using Virtual Account Numbers, simply click on Enroll in/Get below. Every transaction made with this temporary number will appear on my monthly statement alongside my usual purchases, clearly indicating the Virtual Account Number utilized for each transaction. It's essential to keep in mind that not every Citi card includes this Virtual Account Number feature. If you hold a Citi card, you can verify the benefits associated with your card by logging in or registering for Card Benefits, helping you maximize the advantages available to you. This extra security measure allows me to shop online with greater confidence, knowing that my information is well-protected. Additionally, using this feature can help prevent potential fraud and unauthorized access to my financial details.

Date: Jun 19 2023SummaryWhen it works, I'm left with a potentially false sense of security that I have control over my virtual account numbers. When it doesn't work (e.g. their backend service prevents create/delete/edit), it removes all doubt.
PositiveI like the concept...but in reality it seems like there's a gap between marketed features and how it's actually implemented.
NegativeIn reality, the service sometimes is down - and you cannot create, edit, or worse, lock down any existing credit card numbers. Chat support is of no use, as they cannot handle it, and require a call in (so dated!)

I've seen postings as well that merchants can charge inactive cards, or go over the virtual limit. So, is this just marketing then?
