    Best General FTP App

    Date: Nov 25 2020
    Summary

Cyberduck is simple and secure. It does what it does well, but doesn't do anything else. It's compatible with every major cloud vendor and all FTP standards. There's really no reason to use anything else.

    Positive

Cyberduck has become my go-to app for transferring large files. I use it to archive large media files in the cloud. The interface is clear and it has been easy to connect with secure, cloud-based storage services. Uploading and downloading is easy. The developers update the app frequently. Best of all, it's very inexpensive for a reliable and well-supported piece of software.

    Negative

The interface is plain - fine when compared to most FTP programs, but novice users might be more comfortable with a more graphical UI. Also, like other FTP programs, uploads or downloads pop up a small status window that could get lost behind other windows easily. It would be nice to have it all in one interface. Finally, moving around in my online storage spaces is slow, typically taking 3-5 seconds when going from directory to directory. Overall, these are minor inconveniences.
