What is DeviantArt?

We are the origin of artistic innovation, yet this is merely the beginning of our adventure. Our commitment lies in advocating for the liberation of creative expression, as we hold the conviction that art should be available to everyone, while we cultivate the cultural landscape that influences the creation, discovery, and sharing of art. Established in August 2000, DeviantArt has grown to become the largest online community for both artists and enthusiasts, acting as a dynamic platform for emerging artists and experienced creators alike to display, promote, and interact with their artwork in front of a passionate audience focused on art. With an impressive community of over 61 million registered users and more than 45 million unique visitors each month, our members—known as deviants—contribute an endless array of original art daily, showcasing a wide spectrum of styles including painting, sculpture, digital media, pixel art, films, and anime. Artists are attracted to our platform due to our commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive atmosphere, which aids them in exploring their creative identities through self-expression. Furthermore, we provide essential tools, resources, and visibility that are crucial for their artistic advancement and growth. Ultimately, our mission is to inspire and empower individuals to fully embrace their creativity and share their unique visions with the world, making art a universal language that unites us all.

Very antiquated and often does not work

    Date: Sep 28 2023
    Summary

Maybe it makes sense for some artists / content producers but my experience was not good. I will no longer use or visit the site especially after they way then handle customer service.

    Positive

As a core plus member at $15.00 a month, they only take out 2.5% in fees on any subscriptions sold. Has a long time fan base.

    Negative

Very bad customer service. Very bad interface and options in terms of laying out your offerings/content. Just one long page that a user must scroll through to see all the content. Does not allow you to break up your content into sub galleries within a subscription tier and if you are a member who puts up a lot of content, this is a problem. Does not allow you to upload HD videos to your subscriber areas - only 320x240 mpegs which is why retention is so low because nobody wants small, antiquated video formats.
Often bogs down on it's own servers, making uploading sometimes impossible.
Terrible customer service. Will not respond to you most of the time. Will ban you from the site, shot down your gallery without notice if someone complains about your work.
Not consistent in what they will allow vs. what they won't.
You can only load one piece at a time. This takes forever.
Features designed to upsell, like "special downloads" that are supposed to allow larger files are next to impossible to set up and give you an error message 99% of the time.
