WebSocket News Not Delivering Real-Time Data and No Support Response
Date: Mar 01 2026SummaryI rarely leave 1-star reviews, but my experience with Finnhub has been extremely disappointing.
I subscribed to **Fundamentals-1** and **US Market Data**, specifically because Finnhub advertises WebSocket-based real-time news streaming. I am building a news-driven intraday trading system, so real-time delivery is critical.
Here is the issue:
* The WebSocket news feed delivers thousands of items — but they are all old (some months or even years old).
* During US market hours, I receive zero newly published news items.
* This is not just an initial backlog — the stream continuously provides historical data only.
* The REST news endpoints *do* return recent data using the same API key, which confirms the key is valid and active.
In short: WebSocket news does not provide real-time updates under my subscription.
Even more concerning is the lack of support. I contacted Finnhub for clarification weeks ago and have received no response. No explanation about entitlements, no confirmation whether this is expected behavior, no technical guidance — nothing.
For a paid data provider, this level of communication and transparency is unacceptable. If real-time WebSocket news requires an additional plan, this should be clearly documented. If it’s a technical issue, it should be acknowledged and addressed.
At the moment, I cannot rely on this service for a production-grade system.
Until there is clear communication and working real-time WebSocket news delivery, I cannot recommend Finnhub.

Not suitable (in my experience) for real-time, production-grade news-driven systems
