What is Highland 2?

Highland prioritizes the content itself, freeing you from the worries of margins and formatting. You can dive right in and start typing without any hesitation. To enhance readability, ensure you leave a blank line between each paragraph. When you introduce a character, write their name in UPPERCASE and follow it with their dialogue on the next line. The Live Margins feature will manage indentation for you, simplifying the formatting process. For any parenthetical comments, simply enclose them in parentheses. Moreover, Highland automatically recognizes scene headings like INT. and EXT., as well as transitions such as CUT TO. Once you've utilized specific character and location names, Highland conveniently suggests them for your future entries. To view the layout of your script, just click on the Preview button or go to View > Go to Preview. With Highland, you have effectively mastered 90% of the screenwriting essentials. Furthermore, the introduction of Gender Analysis in Highland 2 revolutionizes the way you can evaluate the representation of male and female characters in your script, highlighting not just the frequency of their dialogue but also the total word count associated with each gender. This capability is invaluable for fostering balanced and diverse narratives, ensuring that all voices are represented fairly in your storytelling. By leveraging these features, you can elevate your screenwriting to new heights.

    Versatile But Lacking

    Date: Jul 20 2024
    Summary

I have enjoyed the program, I just wish there was a little bit more, where you could flesh out your characters back stories without writing it into the script. Also, location set ups and city backstory cards. It just needs a little bit more and the software would be very well rounded.

    Positive

I like how easy it is to use for writing a screenplay or writing a simple manuscript. It formats everything for you and you don't have to worry about it. Also, the free trial has a lot of features, but purchasing the pro version is better. It takes out the watermark on every page if you purchase the pro version. The price is actually not bad either. $50 for pro. I also the different revision colors that are used. All in all it is a good solid software, but there are some cons.

    Negative

I have been using the software for a while and I have noticed that there is something lacking in the program.
    Character cards to create backgrounds.
It's missing a cork board of sorts to move scenes around.
