What is PeerTube?

Unleash the potential of free software that helps you take charge of your video content. PeerTube, developed by Framasoft, emerges as a decentralized and open-source alternative to conventional video-sharing platforms, featuring over 400,000 videos from 60,000 contributors, which have together amassed more than 15 million views. Instead of striving to eclipse existing video services, PeerTube aims to offer a distinct alternative that upholds unique principles. Its primary goal is not to become a vast platform that consolidates videos globally but to serve as a network of smaller, interconnected video hosts. Individuals with basic technical skills can establish their own PeerTube server, or instance, crafting a tailored environment for their audience and video material. Each instance functions independently, with its own moderators and administrators, resulting in a varied and personalized video hosting experience across the platform. This decentralized framework cultivates a community where content can flourish free from the constraints of centralization, enabling creative expression to thrive. As a result, users are encouraged to explore diverse content and contribute to a vibrant ecosystem of shared media.

PeerTube is exactly what we need now for P2P video/podcasts, etc.

    Date: Jun 21 2022
    Summary

Use PeerTube server with the free Hive-Tube plugin installed, and your passive income will flow.

    5-stars! :)

    Positive

PeerTube v4 and higher is awesome. Great p2p tech. It even comes with an easy to use docker container. Any server admin with basic skills can install and configure PeerTube. Remote storage and (soon) remote transcoding will be supported as well. You can't get much more decentralised than that.

Just fyi, there's also a free plugin for PeerTube server now called "Hive-Tube". Any video or podcast etc that you upload, or import from Youtube (and other sites) can be auto-monetized, providing you (and even your viewers/listeners if desired) with passive income.

    Negative

Cons? I honestly can't think of any. Remote transcoding will be nice too, but that isn't really needed anyway unless you run a huge site like youtube or something.
