What is Proton Mail?
Proton Mail was established in Switzerland, where all of our servers are situated, ensuring that user data is safeguarded by stringent Swiss privacy regulations. Every email sent is automatically secured through end-to-end encryption, meaning we, too, are unable to read or decrypt your messages. As a result, your encrypted emails are protected from being shared with any external parties. To set up your secure email account, there is no requirement to disclose personal information, and we do not maintain IP logs that could potentially identify your anonymous account. The importance of your privacy is our top priority. We believe that email privacy should be a right accessible to everyone, which is why our code is open-source and basic accounts for Proton Mail are offered free of charge. We encourage users to support our initiative by donating or choosing to upgrade to a premium account. Proton Mail is designed to work seamlessly across all devices without the necessity of additional software installation. For those running a business, Proton Mail Business offers the ability to maintain your professional email address, allowing you to send and receive encrypted communications both internally and externally. Our commitment to privacy and security remains unwavering as we strive to empower users with safe communication options.

Excellent privacy oriented emails
Date: May 15 2023SummaryProtonMail is a great privacy orientated email provider, the pricing can leave a bit to be desired depending on your use-case but otherwise I would strongly recommend it.
Positive- Easy to use,
- Open source,
- Possible to use with a custom domain (requires a premium subscription),
- Privacy orientated (something truly rare these days!)Negative- Could allow for more domains in the premium non-business plans

- The IOS app is somewhat bug-prone and could use more polish and if possible integrate more with the system.
- No MacOS app -

The 1st provider you hear when you want a privacy-respecting e-mail
Date: Mar 02 2022SummaryOverall, ProtonMail is a solid choice for a privacy-respecting e-mail provider, there are some issues, like services not recognizing your ProtonMail address, but it's only minor.
PositiveThe web client is great for all my needs, and ProtonMail is a privacy-respecting e-mail provider, based on Switzerland.
NegativeNo IMAP support on the free plan, and you also need to use an app for that to happen.

Low storage - only 500 mb.
My grandparents have used ProtonMail for their e-mails (I created so they can use some government services), and some of those services would not recognize. -

Got away from gmail!
Date: Feb 28 2021SummaryI really like using Proton mail. The best part is that I am no longer tied to Google mail in any way and have removed all four of the accounts that I had there. Proton mail has given me the security of knowing that I have a level of privacy.
PositiveCan encrypt if you want, or not. All settings are available and it is easy to set up everything. Have a free version that I am currently using and it is not restricted in any way. Allows for two-factor authorization.
NegativeJust couldn't find any cons as of yet. Have used the program for about 3 months.

Great privacy-centric emails
Date: Aug 15 2021SummaryThis is one of the best privacy centric email services around. If more of them nailed the user interface like this one does, Gmail should be scared.
PositiveThe # draw is that this is a secure, privacy-focused email alternative. It also has a very sleek interface.
NegativeUnderstandably, it does not offer a large amount of storage, only 500MB, so no hoarding like you would with gmail.

More private mail
Date: Nov 19 2020SummaryI keep going back and forth between this and Tutanota. For the time being, I prefer Tutanota though I think ProtonMail is the more polished of the two. Both are good services for encrypted mail. I'd give them both and try and see which one you prefer.
PositiveProtonMail offers encrypted emails, so it's a good option for those looking for a more private, secure email service compared to the bigger ones out there like Gmail and Outlook. It's got fairly priced options, and the free version isn't too bad either.
NegativeMuch like Tutanota, however, you can't use this as your only email account because a lot of services won't recognize it as a "valid" email service even though it very obviously is.

PositiveI love that my emails are end to end encrypted. I found out that Gmail reads my emails and I quickly signed up for the free version.
NegativePeople look at me weird when I give them my email address now.
