    Fresh look for my email

    Date: Jul 09 2025
    Summary

Overall the experience has been positive. I am currently using it as a secondary email but may start using it as a main email service with time.

    Positive

I like the fact that it was constructed around account safety and it has a fresh interface. It has a lot of features and it is quite affordable for regular users.

    Negative

The Proton ecosystem may take some getting used to. Like trying to figure out how to use alises.

A complete, secure, and versatile solution

    Date: Sep 02 2025
    Summary

Proton has been a game changer for our business: secure, fast, private, and extremely reliable. It gives us peace of mind and simplifies our workflow, while offering flexible plans that fit different needs. The UI and UX are smooth, intuitive, and clear — it’s genuinely a pleasure to switch between Windows 11 and iPhone and see everything flow seamlessly. Definitely a service I’d recommend to anyone.

    Positive

All tools in one place — Mail, Drive, VPN, Calendar — make work simple and efficient. Seamless sync across devices keeps everything smooth and effortless, with flexible plans for any need.

    Negative

So far, nothing to complain about. Everything works beyond our expectations. The Snowfall theme is a nice touch, though that’s of course just a personal preference

    Excellent privacy oriented emails

    Date: May 15 2023
    Summary

ProtonMail is a great privacy orientated email provider, the pricing can leave a bit to be desired depending on your use-case but otherwise I would strongly recommend it.

    Positive

    - Easy to use,
    - Open source,
    - Possible to use with a custom domain (requires a premium subscription),
    - Privacy orientated (something truly rare these days!)

    Negative

    - Could allow for more domains in the premium non-business plans
    - The IOS app is somewhat bug-prone and could use more polish and if possible integrate more with the system.
    - No MacOS app

The 1st provider you hear when you want a privacy-respecting e-mail

    Date: Mar 02 2022
    Summary

Overall, ProtonMail is a solid choice for a privacy-respecting e-mail provider, there are some issues, like services not recognizing your ProtonMail address, but it's only minor.

    Positive

The web client is great for all my needs, and ProtonMail is a privacy-respecting e-mail provider, based on Switzerland.

    Negative

No IMAP support on the free plan, and you also need to use an app for that to happen.
Low storage - only 500 mb.
My grandparents have used ProtonMail for their e-mails (I created so they can use some government services), and some of those services would not recognize.

    Got away from gmail!

    Date: Feb 28 2021
    Summary

I really like using Proton mail. The best part is that I am no longer tied to Google mail in any way and have removed all four of the accounts that I had there. Proton mail has given me the security of knowing that I have a level of privacy.

    Positive

Can encrypt if you want, or not. All settings are available and it is easy to set up everything. Have a free version that I am currently using and it is not restricted in any way. Allows for two-factor authorization.

    Negative

Just couldn't find any cons as of yet. Have used the program for about 3 months.

    Great privacy-centric emails

    Date: Aug 15 2021
    Summary

This is one of the best privacy centric email services around. If more of them nailed the user interface like this one does, Gmail should be scared.

    Positive

The # draw is that this is a secure, privacy-focused email alternative. It also has a very sleek interface.

    Negative

Understandably, it does not offer a large amount of storage, only 500MB, so no hoarding like you would with gmail.

    More private mail

    Date: Nov 19 2020
    Summary

I keep going back and forth between this and Tutanota. For the time being, I prefer Tutanota though I think ProtonMail is the more polished of the two. Both are good services for encrypted mail. I'd give them both and try and see which one you prefer.

    Positive

ProtonMail offers encrypted emails, so it's a good option for those looking for a more private, secure email service compared to the bigger ones out there like Gmail and Outlook. It's got fairly priced options, and the free version isn't too bad either.

    Negative

Much like Tutanota, however, you can't use this as your only email account because a lot of services won't recognize it as a "valid" email service even though it very obviously is.

    Feel Safe

    Date: Oct 17 2020
    Summary

Overall the free version is great unless you are going to be sending a ton of emails. It works for me and I feel safe using it.

    Positive

I love that my emails are end to end encrypted. I found out that Gmail reads my emails and I quickly signed up for the free version.

    Negative

People look at me weird when I give them my email address now.
