What is Proton VPN?
Safeguard your online presence with a high-speed Swiss VPN that prioritizes your privacy. This VPN encrypts your internet traffic through a secure tunnel, ensuring your passwords and sensitive information remain safe, even on insecure networks. With this protection, your browsing history stays confidential. As a Swiss VPN provider, we uphold a strict no-logs policy and do not share user data with any third parties. Our anonymous VPN service enables you to navigate the web freely without the threat of being tracked. Originally designed to support journalists and activists using Proton Mail, Proton VPN breaks down barriers to internet censorship, granting you access to a wide range of websites and content. Unlike typical VPN services, Proton VPN is specifically engineered with security at its core, informed by experiences with journalists and activists in challenging environments. In situations where servers may be under surveillance, conventional VPNs risk being compromised; however, Proton VPN mitigates this risk by initially routing user traffic through our SecureCore network, enhancing your online security even further. This level of protection ensures that you can browse the internet with greater peace of mind, knowing that your privacy is a top priority.

Promises privacy, but is malware
Date: Jul 06 2022SummaryHorrible. I hate this thing. I do not know what to do, It's limiting my ability to use the internet.
PositiveWorked well for the first few months. Offered several free IP sites around the world. Promises high level of security. Looks sharp on the desktop.
NegativeAt first the app worked fine, it began to refuse to open or close. Next it began to autonomously open and close while visiting websites or not or open a tunnel in another country without my knowledge. Now it has imbedded itself in my computer and will not let go. I have deleted the app, shut down the computer, deleted cookies, etc, But it is blocking access to commonly used public sites even though, it's not supposed to even be there.

Newer CLI and GUI complete disaster
Date: Aug 19 2021SummaryA disaster, poor response from support, no effort to correct problems when I told them repeatedly about it.
PositiveNone. I have a paid subscription to PVPN for two years and it was fine. I am also a subscriber to the email.
NegativeThe GUI kept killing my internet connections, meaning even with the GUI turned off or uninstalled even, it wrecked my wi-fi connection. This happened on two Linux mint 20.2 computers, one of which was dual-booted with Win 10. PVPN worked on Windows, showing it wasn't my modem or my computer. I had to re-install Mint three times on both machines, just to get back online.

Favorite VPN for the right reasons
Date: May 20 2021SummaryProtonVPN is definitely a favorite and one I intend to use for long. I wish there were more locations possible, and the bandwidth, while certainly not very limiting, could use some improvement. Overall, I'm very satisfied.
Positive• The interface is one of the best I've come across. It shows you a world map with all the possible locations to connect to.
• The free version is the best among all VPNs I've tried. No advertisements, and no daily limit.
• Excellent security and privacy. I can safely say that I haven't had to share personal information while using ProtonVPN.
• Flexible subscription plans.Negative• Speed is limited in free version.

Safe, secure and fast VPN
Date: Jun 06 2020SummaryOverall ProtonVPN is very reliable and safe to use. I'm the fan of its server speed even when you are playing online games you will never face any ping drop issue which most of other VPNs have. It lets you connect up to 10 devices at same time.
PositiveIt makes very simple to bypass and access blocked content. In their privacy policy it tells that that never sell it save your data which is very rare in VPN service. No data loss or ping issue while playing online games.
NegativeMostly in weekends I face difficulty to join the VPN server.

One of the best free VPNs out there!
Date: Jun 04 2020SummaryI can see why some privacy and security journalists offer ProtonMail as one way of reaching them! I'm happy to sacrifice a little flexibility in choosing which country (which is also helpful since in the US, you don't really have blocked sites anyways, and screwing around with country messes up Google search language results), if it means I can know my data is safe in Swiss servers.
PositiveI got ProtonMail's VPN to better protect myself online, and I'm happy to say that unlike some of the other free VPN solutions out there, ProtonMail actually works! I tried looking up my IP address before and after, and the geolocation feature definitely works. I also like how ProtonMail, on Windows desktop at least, lets you decide if you want all your traffic routed through its servers or just some.
NegativeThe free tier isn't flexible enough to really select where your spoofed location is - it seems to default to other places in your country. Other free VPNs like the one in Opera Developer let you select which continent to be routed to, but it's questionable where those VPN servers are and how secure your data is.
