What is QStart?

We are excited to announce that our introductory QStart teleprompter software is now available for free download, enabling everyone to benefit from the features of an Autocue teleprompter. QStart is the foundational teleprompting software offered by Autocue, with more sophisticated versions like QPro and QMaster accessible for those with more complex requirements. The application allows users to import scripts in various formats, including Word documents and text files, or they can type their content directly into the software. Users have the ability to format their scripts using standard Windows functionalities, such as selecting different fonts, sizes, colors, text alignment, and adding basic markers. To enhance usability, the software supports both wired and wireless hand or foot controls for adjusting the script's speed or movement, and alternatively, users can utilize their mouse or keyboard for these functions. A notable feature of QStart is its dual-screen capability, which ensures that the script is mirrored correctly for the presenter on the teleprompter while also being displayed on the PC monitor, thus providing an optimal viewing experience. This array of features not only ensures a smooth teleprompting process but also caters to a wide range of user preferences and settings. Ultimately, QStart aims to transform the way individuals present their content, making the art of public speaking more accessible and efficient for everyone.

    Simple, effective, clunky

    Summary

    It works, it's free, it could be better. There's no more development on it. You can have a good production with it, but it takes some trial and error to learn the nuances of the settings. It isn't always straight forward.

    Positive

    Easy to load text in, colour, font options are good. Custom commands for quickly moving around the script are easy to create and reliable.

    Negative

    The layout of the settings doesn't make it easy to quickly find what you want to change to change it. You need to work with it a few times on site to learn which involves holding up production possibly even a few minutes.
    Settings saving are hit or miss. You set up the entire program to your liking, move to a different site, only to find you have to do it all over again.
    On extended display, the prompter scrolls smoothly but the operator display is jittery and you don't know if you're actually doing a good job a lot of the time. This is true even for powerful computers.
