What is SIM-101?
SIM-101 is a sophisticated protocol simulation tool developed for Windows, compliant with the IEC 60870-5-101 standard and tailored by SIM SYSTEMS for various SCADA-related functions including testing, commissioning, maintenance, training, and troubleshooting. This simulator features multiple operational modes such as Master, Slave, and Monitor, enabling users to replicate control stations, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), or to observe existing communications without interference. Key functionalities of SIM-101 encompass both balanced and unbalanced operational modes, support for serial and TCP/IP connections, automatic point database generation, real-time traffic visualization, protocol decoding, graphical trend analysis, command testing, and interrogation options for both general and counters. Moreover, it integrates clock synchronization, event generation, customizable Class 1 and Class 2 buffers, compatibility with IPv4 and IPv6, and capabilities for persistent packet recording. This makes SIM-101 exceptionally useful for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), interoperability evaluations, SCADA system migration initiatives, device development tasks, communication diagnostics, and the emulation of field scenarios without the necessity for actual hardware. With the implementation of SIM-101, users can enhance the efficiency of their SCADA operations while significantly boosting system reliability. Furthermore, the versatility and robustness of this simulator ensure that it can adapt to various user needs and scenarios effectively.
