What is Steem?

Steem represents a groundbreaking social blockchain that aims to nurture communities while providing users with instant monetization options by rewarding them for their content contributions. As the pioneering blockchain capable of enabling real-world applications via social platforms like Steemit, it disrupts the conventional model where profits from user-generated content are predominantly enjoyed by shareholders of major social media companies. In a remarkable shift, Steem ensures that value is redirected back to the content creators, empowering them to become integral stakeholders within the platform. This innovative framework not only allows users to retain ownership of their data but also compensates them with cryptocurrency for their contributions. Unlike numerous other blockchains that struggle with transaction speed and high fees, Steem is distinguished by its quick, cost-free, and scalable transactions, facilitated by sophisticated bandwidth management techniques. It is the only blockchain robust enough to handle extensive social applications, boasting a transaction throughput that surpasses that of both Bitcoin and Ethereum combined. With a thriving community of over 1 million users and more than 324 applications developed on its platform, Steem is pivotal in transforming the dynamics of social media and digital content distribution. This revolutionary ecosystem not only amplifies user engagement but also cultivates an unparalleled sense of community ownership, setting a new standard in the digital landscape. As Steem continues to grow, it holds the potential to redefine how we perceive value and participation in the digital age.

Avoid it, use fork - Hive.

    Date: Oct 17 2023
    Summary

Avoid it. Use Hive that is a fork made by former developers of Steem and is continuously improved ever since.

    Positive

It was great when it started in 2016, engaged community and developers, but that was before hostile takeover by Sun / TRON in 2020.

    Negative

After hostile takeover: centralized, corrupted governance, censorship, thieves and frauds. No development since takeover (2020), all core developers moved out to different projects, including fork of Steem called Hive.
