What is Thirdspace?

Since the 1950s, many modern workplaces have lacked authentic human connection, causing employees to feel undervalued and isolated, which ultimately diminishes their enthusiasm for their jobs. Rather than looking forward to returning to work come Sunday night, a significant number of individuals find themselves overwhelmed by anxiety. To combat this challenge, we developed ThirdSpace, a mobile and cloud-based platform designed to foster trust and connections among colleagues. The idea is inspired by sociologist Ray Oldenburg’s concept of a "third space," which represents a social environment distinct from home (the "first place") and the workplace (the "second place"). This third space serves as a sanctuary where individuals can briefly escape their professional identities to build community and camaraderie with their coworkers, similar to the casual interactions that occur by the water cooler. We have seen that many organizations express a strong desire for innovation, agility, and resilience, yet they frequently overlook the importance of igniting the passion that drives the human spirit. Without this vital ingredient, achieving genuine transformation becomes an uphill battle, leaving companies to struggle with disengaged employees and stagnant growth.
