What is UncensoredDNS?

UncensoredDNS is a free DNS service that offers two uncensored servers accessible to anyone. It is operated independently by Thomas Steen Rasmussen, a system administrator who was born in 1979 and is associated with a Danish internet provider. The service, which was launched in November 2009, arose shortly after Rasmussen took on responsibilities at an ISP managing censored DNS servers for Danish ISPs. At that time, OpenDNS implemented NXDOMAIN redirection, which redirected queries for misspelled nonexistent domains to a search page filled with advertisements instead of providing an NXDOMAIN error, a practice that displeased DNS purists like Rasmussen. Additionally, OpenDNS did not support crucial features such as IPv6 and DNSSEC, which were essential for any contemporary DNS server during 2009. In light of these limitations, Rasmussen created UncensoredDNS to deliver a trustworthy and unrestricted option for users who desire unfiltered access to the internet. This initiative not only showcases his dedication to a more transparent online experience but also addresses the growing demand for a reliable DNS solution that upholds user privacy and freedom. Ultimately, UncensoredDNS stands as a testament to his vision for a more open and accessible internet.
