    Wechat - Multi application

    Date: Jun 09 2020
    Summary

WeChat is easy to set up just like any other social media platform. It is free like any other communication application like WhatsApp, Viber, and Facebook. The most important feature which makes WeChat special is its ability to collaborate and set up for business. The calling options are also very good.

WeChat has rumors that the Chinese government can access the data. On the piracy note, WeChat is not up to the mark, I would definitely suggest the application for its features.

    Positive

(+) Multi-application, mini-apps, and support to many features is a definite plus.
(+) Easy to use and very interactive interface.
(+) Integration with various other businesses.
    (+) Easy to setup.

    Negative

(-) Not as fast as regular communication applications.
(-) Privacy is not up to the mark.
(-) Improvements on the collaboration interface.

A bit laggy on older Androids

    Date: Jun 07 2020
    Summary

Most used abroad in China. Basically like Line in Japan, or KakaoTalk in Korea. Mostly needed only if trying to communicate with large groups from those regions.

    Positive

I use WeChat to communicate with classmates in some culture clubs at university. I prefer FB Messenger groups to WeChat groups though, because I find that WeChat makes my older Android phone laggy. It's pretty cool how WeChat had payment options and miniapps long before most western messaging apps though.

    Negative

Makes phone laggy, is memory intensive, can make phone hot to the touch after ~10 min of calling someone via WeChat. Supposedly is monitored by the Chinese government.
