What is WordPad?
WordPad is a user-friendly text-editing tool that empowers individuals to create and modify documents, allowing for the inclusion of diverse fonts and colors alongside the ability to add images and hyperlinks to various files. This adaptable application supports the opening and saving of several file formats, such as text files (.txt), rich text format files (.rtf), Microsoft Word documents (.docx), and OpenDocument text files (.odt). However, it's crucial to recognize that files in formats that are not supported will appear as plain text and may not render correctly. Moreover, certain features like headers, footers, and comments are not compatible with WordPad, which means any document containing these elements will lose them upon being saved. To prevent the loss of original content when working with such files, it is recommended to use the "Save as" function to create a new file under a different name, enabling you to edit a copy while keeping the original intact. Users can also gain insights into the functions of various buttons by pressing and holding them briefly for descriptions or hovering the mouse over them for more help. Effectively leveraging these functionalities can significantly enhance the WordPad user experience while providing a practical solution for document editing needs. Additionally, familiarizing yourself with shortcuts can further streamline your workflow and improve efficiency.

Undervalued
Date: Feb 09 2024SummaryIt's a great free tool for note taking and writing something without intending to print it out. But compared to word it of course seriously lacks features but the price difference is very compelling.
Most people compare it to word but you really should compare it to notepad.PositiveIt comes free with windows and is perfect for just writing something down or taking notes. It also seems to really be meant for writing (without printing) since it doesn't format into A4 papers.
NegativeIt doesn't have all the features of word and most annoying it doesn't show the shortcuts for the features. Still don't know how to increase/decrease the indent without needing to stop typing and click the button.

NEEDS SOURCE OF "HOW TO" INFORMATION
Date: Mar 13 2022SummaryI'm just very frustrated right now after trying for 2 days to find out how to type a business address on an envelope.
PositiveCame with my new computer, so I didn't have to pay for it. I only needed to occasionally type a letter or a document, and it serves my purpose for that.
NegativeI have been unable to find out how to type an address on an envelope! Doesn't do me a lot of good to type a business letter when I can't type an official looking envelope for it! Needs a source to search for information with "How To" instructions!

Frustrated as hell
Date: Dec 06 2022SummaryThere are no words for my frustration with WordPad and the inability to use it with existing Word documents. I cannot format, I cannot even find the tools for formatting. I have wasted several precious hours trying to figure out how to even insert a page break or set margins. Why did Windows 11 give us this new form of word processing? If my computer weren't so expensive, it would literally be thrown out the window and smashed in the driveway below.
PositiveNothing. There are no pros.
NegativeThere isn't anything to like about WordPad. Nothing is good so everything is bad. I cannot figure out how to use it so isn't that a con enough. We were conned into getting this feature when there was an updated to Windows 11. Thank you very little!
