What is Kismet?

Kismet is designed to work seamlessly with a variety of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth interfaces, certain software-defined radio (SDR) hardware such as the RTLSDR, and other specialized capture devices. It operates on Linux, OSX, and to some extent on Windows 10 via the WSL framework. On Linux, it is compatible with the majority of Wi-Fi cards, Bluetooth equipment, and additional hardware, while on OSX, it is effective with the built-in Wi-Fi interfaces; Windows 10 users can utilize it for remote captures as well. If you are keen on supporting Kismet, there are numerous ways to contribute financially, though such contributions are welcomed but not required. At its essence, Kismet is an open-source project. The recent updates to the Kismet codebase (Kismet-2018-Beta1 and later) have introduced plugins that improve the WebUI functionalities through enhancements in JavaScript and browser capabilities, along with the established C++ plugin architecture that permits extensions for low-level server functionalities. This advancement not only improves the overall user experience but also fosters a spirit of collaborative development among users and contributors. Ultimately, Kismet's evolution reflects a commitment to innovation and community engagement.

What is Fing?

Fing Device Intelligence and Knowledge offers extensive insight into your connected ecosystem. Central to its digital solutions is Device Recognition, which allows Fing to identify both wired and wireless gadgets in various settings—be it home, office, or enterprise—using only the MAC address to determine device type, manufacturer, model, and operating system details (including name and version). With over ten years of industry experience, Fing has built a reputable brand focused on device identification technologies tailored for the Internet of Things (IoT). To improve the precision of its device recognition capabilities, Fing leverages crowdsourcing to validate and enhance its database. Furthermore, it employs machine learning methods to scrutinize the crowdsourced data effectively. Fing has developed a unique patented algorithm capable of identifying devices through MAC address analysis alone, which sets it apart from basic Vendor lookup techniques. Opting for Fing ensures that you achieve outstanding device recognition at a cost significantly lower than what would be required to create a comparable in-house solution. This strategy not only speeds up your time-to-market but also reduces long-term maintenance costs. As a result, Fing equips organizations to manage their digital landscapes effectively while optimizing their available resources and improving operational efficiency.
