What is Lokalize?

Lokalize is a specialized localization tool designed specifically for KDE software and various free and open-source applications. It operates as an all-encompassing computer-aided translation (CAT) system, allowing users to translate OpenDocument files (*.odt). The tool employs Translate-Toolkit internally to extract text for translation, converting .odt files into .xliff format, and later reintegrates the translated text back into the original .odt files. For Windows users, installation packages can be downloaded from the binary-factory, but it's important to note that these versions lack translations and are mainly for testing. Users are encouraged to get involved to further improve this tool! The Translation Memory (TM) feature now tracks the source of each translation pair, facilitating more efficient searches. To look for a specific string in files on your disk, you can simply drag the relevant directory onto the translation memory tab (F7) to refresh TM, pause for a moment, and then type your search term in the designated field of the Translation Memory tab before pressing Enter to quickly locate your results. This streamlined process not only enhances the user experience but also contributes to better project management, ultimately boosting productivity. Additionally, regular updates and community feedback play a critical role in refining Lokalize's capabilities.

What is El Loco?

Let’s face it, localizing a mobile application can often feel as tedious as doing your taxes. El Loco revolutionizes this process, allowing you to connect with a worldwide audience effortlessly and with minimal hassle. Gone are the days of laboriously wrapping strings and executing complex command-line instructions. Functioning as a localization assistant, the El Loco application integrates smoothly with your development tools, diligently scanning your codebase for strings in need of localization, marking them for your review, and updating your project based on your specifications. Extracting strings from your code and formatting them properly can be as uncomfortable as a trip to the dentist. Thankfully, El Loco adeptly detects strings during the code preparation phase and compiles them into a localization file ready for quick upload to the El Loco web app. You can rest assured that your complete source code stays on your local machine, with only the necessary strings and screen definitions transmitted to El Loco. With its intuitive design and user-centric features, El Loco transforms the often daunting localization task into a streamlined, efficient process. This not only saves you time but also allows you to focus more on enhancing your app’s functionality and user experience.
