What is Mailpile?

Mailpile is dedicated to enhancing the privacy of online communication, aiming to free our personal exchanges from the reach of corporate and governmental oversight in today's digital landscape. This project prioritizes the protection of our dialogues from misuse and seeks to restore autonomy over our email interactions. Featuring advanced search and tagging capabilities, Mailpile adeptly handles your inbox, whether you're managing a few emails or an extensive collection. Its design ensures speed and responsiveness, functioning well even on less powerful devices and remaining operational without the need for an Internet connection. Central to Mailpile's design is the incorporation of OpenPGP signatures and encryption, making the process of securing your emails both easy and user-friendly. In contrast to many web-mail services that replace spam with their own advertisements, Mailpile distinguishes itself by offering a completely ad-free experience for users. Furthermore, Mailpile places a strong emphasis on user privacy and autonomy, allowing people to communicate without the interference of advertising interruptions, thereby fostering a more genuine online interaction. As a result, users can enjoy a more peaceful and focused email environment.

What is Aster Mail?

Aster Mail is a free, open-source email service that prioritizes user privacy through end-to-end encryption, offering a straightforward experience that avoids complicated technical hurdles. The encryption happens directly on the user's device, guaranteeing that our servers remain uninformed about the contents of messages or any related metadata. By leveraging the widely recognized OpenPGP standard with RSA-4096 keys, Aster allows users to maintain independence from any single provider, as their keys are compatible with GPG, Thunderbird, or any other PGP-enabled client, and can be easily found through WKD and public key servers. For communications between users of Aster, the service utilizes a Signal-inspired X3DH and Double Ratchet protocol, which significantly boosts forward secrecy. Each subscription level includes encrypted email functionalities, the ability to use custom domains, free aliases, protection from trackers, and unrestricted access on both web and desktop interfaces. The entire codebase is released under the AGPL v3 license on GitHub, promoting rigorous audits, and it includes a public warrant canary along with a transparent vulnerability disclosure policy to enhance user trust. The free subscription offers 10 GB of encrypted storage, 5 aliases, and 1 custom domain, while paid plans commence at just $2.99 monthly, with all servers based in Germany to comply with strict data protection laws. Users can confidently communicate, knowing their messages are safeguarded by leading encryption technologies, making Aster Mail an excellent choice for those valuing privacy. Moreover, the user-friendly interface ensures that even those with limited technical knowledge can take full advantage of its robust security features.
