Eighteen years ago, we set out to develop the Easy Trace package, initially intending it to serve as a digitization tool specifically for AutoCAD (acting as a vectorizer). However, its first presentation at the COMTEC Exhibition revealed a broader interest in solutions for "paper-to-digit conversion," particularly in the context of GIS technologies, rather than being limited to CAD applications. This realization highlighted a crucial distinction between software geared toward "drawing" and that designed for "cartographic" digitizing. Following this insight, specialized CAD vectorizers began to emerge, with several establishing strong reputations in the market. On the other hand, many newcomers in the GIS technology space struggled to keep up and ultimately withdrew from the competition.
