What is NetFoundry?

NetFoundry is an identity-first Zero Trust networking platform built to secure workload connectivity across applications, APIs, cloud infrastructure, data centers, AI agents, industrial systems, and distributed sites. The platform is based on OpenZiti, the open source Zero Trust networking technology created and maintained by NetFoundry. Rather than connecting systems primarily by IP address, NetFoundry assigns cryptographic identities to workloads and uses policy to determine which identities can communicate with specific services. Authorized sessions are established through outbound-only, end-to-end encrypted connections, leaving protected services without inbound ports that can be scanned or directly attacked. This architecture can reduce reliance on traditional VPNs, firewall rules, network address translation, static routes, and IP allowlists when connecting distributed workloads. Identity-based microsegmentation allows teams to create least-privilege paths between individual services and helps limit lateral movement if one system is compromised. Site-to-site capabilities connect clouds, branches, plants, partner networks, and other environments without requiring conventional tunnel management or unique IP address ranges. NetFoundry also provides controls for AI agents so organizations can govern machine-to-machine access, apply consistent policies, and track interactions across AI infrastructure. API security capabilities can keep services unreachable until authentication and authorization are complete, while OT and IoT features help secure legacy or sensitive environments without modifying individual controllers. Software vendors and solution providers can embed NetFoundry connectivity into their own products to reach customer environments without requiring customers to expose inbound ports or configure traditional VPN access.

What is AWS VPN?

AWS VPN provides secure connections between on-premises networks and AWS Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs) through the use of IPsec VPN tunnels, which guarantees a strong and reliable link. To bolster availability, each VPN connection features dual tunnels that terminate in separate availability zones, enhancing overall resilience. This service supports both static and dynamic routing via BGP, while allowing for customizable tunnel configurations, including settings for inside tunnel IP addresses, pre-shared keys, and BGP Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs). The Accelerated Site-to-Site VPN option takes advantage of AWS Global Accelerator, improving traffic routing by directing it through the nearest AWS edge location, thereby reducing latency and jitter to enhance user experience. Furthermore, AWS Client VPN acts as a fully managed and elastic VPN service, allowing users to securely access AWS and on-premises resources from any location using an OpenVPN-based client. It accommodates a range of authentication methods, such as Active Directory, mutual certificate authentication, and SAML-based federated authentication, which ensures both flexibility and security for users. Ultimately, these various VPN solutions offered by AWS address a wide array of connectivity needs, all while placing a strong emphasis on security and performance for optimal operational efficiency. Additionally, the comprehensive nature of these services allows organizations to tailor their VPN setups to meet specific requirements, further enhancing their cloud infrastructure.
