What is OpenHands?

We firmly believe that agentic technology possesses immense potential that should not be controlled by a limited number of corporations. As a result, we are creating all of our agents with full transparency on GitHub and employing the MIT license to ensure open access for everyone. Our agents can perform any task that a human developer can execute, including coding, running commands, and effectively navigating the web. In our effort to balance innovation with safety, we are partnering with AI safety experts like Invariant Labs to guide our development. A large and diverse community of developers is coming together to influence the AI-driven future they aspire to create. Furthermore, our agents are engineered to work seamlessly with any provider of large language models, which significantly boosts their versatility and applicability. This dedication to transparency and collaboration is not only fostering a more equitable technological environment but also encouraging widespread participation in shaping the future of AI. Ultimately, we envision a landscape where technology empowers everyone, not just a select few.

What is Mel?

Mel serves as a sophisticated terminal and developer platform aimed at the creation, testing, and maintenance of software applications. By allowing developers to express their tasks in natural language, Mel's agent is capable of reviewing project files, executing shell commands, modifying code, conducting tests, and analyzing results. Users have control over actions like file changes and command executions through adjustable approval settings that ensure security. The platform is compatible with a variety of models from different providers, offering the flexibility of using hosted credits or a user’s own provider key, while also managing multiple agents within a single project. Built-in connectors and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers are included in the system, enabling interaction with a range of external tools and services. Furthermore, Mel features an API that empowers users to trigger agent actions directly from their scripts. It can be utilized as a desktop application on macOS, Windows, and Linux, in addition to being available as an extension for Visual Studio Code, which significantly enhances the adaptability of developer workflows. This integration not only streamlines the development process but also promotes effective collaboration among teams, making it an invaluable asset in the software development landscape. Ultimately, Mel represents a comprehensive solution that bridges the gap between natural language processing and programming efficiency.
