What is Origin?

Origin by Cursor is a new Git platform designed to support the next stage of AI-assisted software development. Cursor’s Origin page describes it as “a git forge for the agentic era,” built because code is moving faster than existing development infrastructure was designed to handle. The product was announced at Cursor’s Compile 2026 keynote as one of the company’s upcoming releases. Cursor identified Origin specifically as “a new Git platform,” alongside Cursor Mobile and a new model trained from scratch. Origin is currently presented as a waitlist product, with teams able to submit a work email for future access. The product connects naturally to Cursor’s broader focus on AI coding agents, cloud agents, code review, CLI workflows, Composer, teams, enterprise capabilities, and developer productivity. Cursor has also described its wider product evolution as a shift from manual file editing toward agents that write more of the code and eventually work in fleets to ship improvements. In that environment, a Git platform can become more important because teams need infrastructure that can track, review, merge, and govern faster streams of human and AI-generated changes. Origin by Cursor is therefore best understood as source-control infrastructure built around the workflows Cursor expects AI-native engineering teams to use. The platform is still early based on Cursor’s public waitlist page, so detailed product features beyond its Git-platform positioning are not fully published yet. By combining Git hosting, Cursor’s agentic development direction, and native alignment with Cursor’s coding ecosystem, Origin by Cursor is positioned for engineering teams preparing for higher-volume AI code creation and review.

What is Codebahn?

Codebahn is a fast and private GitHub alternative offering managed Git and CI on EU-only infrastructure. It provides repositories, CI pipelines, issue tracking, a container registry, an open-source CLI, and an MCP server for AI coding agents. Three interfaces serve different workflows: a web UI, a terminal CLI, and an MCP server that lets AI agents interact with the forge directly, averaging 128ms per tool call. Pricing is per-seat. Solo costs €9/month for individual developers and includes 200 CI minutes. Crew costs €9/seat plus €10/month for the team, with 1,000 CI minutes per seat pooled across the organization. Builds pause when minutes run out rather than incurring overage charges. Additional minutes are available as fixed-price top-ups at €9 per 1,000 minutes. Storage beyond the plan allowance is billed at a flat per-GiB rate. The platform runs on a maintained fork of Forgejo, an open-source forge licensed under GPL-3.0. The fork adds billing, ephemeral CI provisioning on tenant-isolated EU runners, multi-tenant isolation, and safety-first defaults. The underlying code is publicly auditable. Codebahn is operated by Hackerman AB, a Swedish company. All infrastructure runs in the EU: compute and storage on Scaleway (France), backups on Hetzner (Germany), payments via Mollie (Netherlands). Every sub-processor is EU-incorporated. No US entity sits anywhere in the data path. There is no AI training pipeline, no telemetry on authenticated pages, and no third-party tracking. Every repository is private by design, enforced in code. Data is portable. Users can perform a one-click export in standard format at any time, with no exit fee. After cancellation, a 30-day read-only window allows retrieval of all data. Codebahn has been running since June 2026 with paying customers. It is designed for commercial and closed-source work; there is no free tier and no public repositories.
