What is Ribbon PSX SWe?

The Ribbon PSX Software Edition (PSX SWe) is a comprehensive and virtualized solution designed specifically for service providers to optimize and oversee VoIP services across diverse network environments. It integrates sophisticated session management capabilities for session border controllers (SBCs), media gateways, and call controllers, supporting an extensive array of protocols, such as SIP, ENUM, H.323, TDM, SS7/C7, IN/AIN, and IMS. By utilizing a distributed architecture, it allows service providers to deploy localized instances that enhance both performance and reliability, while maintaining centralized oversight of policies, routing, and administration, thereby simplifying synchronization challenges across various sites. Key functionalities include Least Cost Routing (LCR), Quality of Service (QoS) routing, toll-free number routing, and number translation services, all contributing to improved operational productivity. Additionally, the PSX SWe functions as an IMS Breakout Gateway Control Function (BGCF) and features call validation treatments for STIR/SHAKEN alongside Reputation Scoring services, which collectively mitigate the threat of call spoofing. This comprehensive strategy not only safeguards the integrity of VoIP services but also fosters greater trust and satisfaction among providers and their customers, ultimately enhancing the overall user experience in telecommunications.

What is Cisco Unified Border Element (CUBE)?

The Cisco Unified Border Element (CUBE) functions as a powerful Session Border Controller (SBC) aimed at enterprises, providing a secure, scalable, and flexible solution for voice and video communications between corporate networks and SIP trunks from providers. It performs four crucial functions: managing sessions, enforcing security, facilitating protocol interworking, and defining network boundaries. By ensuring signaling compatibility between SIP and H.323 protocols, CUBE oversees media interworking, which encompasses DTMF, fax, modem support, and codec transcoding, all while carrying out address and port translations to maintain privacy and obscure network architecture. In addition to these core capabilities, it includes features like billing and call detail record (CDR) normalization, quality-of-service (QoS) enhancement, bandwidth management, and media services that support forking and proxying. Furthermore, CUBE can be deployed on Cisco routers or as a virtual solution on Cisco UCS servers, allowing for centralized, distributed, or hybrid deployment models that cater to various organizational requirements. This flexibility ensures that businesses can adapt their communication systems seamlessly to address changing needs and technological advancements. Consequently, CUBE is a vital component for companies striving to optimize their communication infrastructure and improve overall operational efficiency.
